An overview of modern metal additive manufacturing technology

There has been significant development in metal additive manufacturing (MAM) technology over the past few decades, and considerable progress made understanding how various processes their parameters influence properties of printed metallic parts. Despite this, knowledge concerning its characteristics dispersed across a variety publications sources, making it difficult to gain comprehensive entire field, especially for businesses interested (AM). In order bridge this gap, periodic reviews encompassing state-of-the-art as whole are necessary. Therefore, article provides overview essential features MAM techniques based on most recent scientific knowledge. It explores emerging research four technologies, including material extrusion (ME), binder jetting (BJ), powder bed fusion (PBF), directed energy deposition (DED). As well providing an outline fundamental process characteristics, ongoing efforts optimize them current challenges, also highlights gaps future needs. A feature review is provision substantial documentation regarding mechanical materials processed by commercial systems, novel hybrid (HAM) machines. This accompanied investigation into works done characterize environmental impact along with conceptual framework improving efficiency (EE) process. result reporting both several sustainability one integrated article, anticipated that information will serve valuable resource academic communities better appreciate understand what differentiates from traditional (TM) processes, thus facilitating advancement adoption.
